BLACKFOOT — The photography class at Blackfoot High School is offering to take free pictures of veterans in honor of Memorial Day.

Amando Alvarez, a Vietnam veteran, was the first veteran the class reached out to. He said they are planning to take pictures of veterans from May 1 to May 9.

“They wanted to take pictures of the local veterans for Memorial Day,” he said. “They thought that would be a good way to recognize and honor veterans.”

Alvarez said he is happy with how his portrait turned out. He said the class will give the pictures to the veterans.

“It came out really nice,” he said. “I’m really happy that the class is doing this.”

Alvarez said the high school hopes to honor the veterans and to show gratitude for their service. He expressed gratitude for the students and the high school for the project.

“I believe that these veteran portraits will be a unique way to preserve the local history of our brave men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military,” he said.

Alvarez said if veterans want to have their picture taken, they need to reserve their spot by calling 208-680-8210.
