POCATELLO — A 38-year-old local man was recently arrested after police say punched a woman over 20 times after refusing to return the phone he borrowed from her.

Nicklas Brandon Frasure, of Pocatello, was charged with felony aggravated assault following the incident, which unfolded on July 13.

Pocatello police received a report of a physical disturbance between Frasure and a woman around 2:45 p.m. on July 13 at a home on Wayne Avenue, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers interviewed the victim who said she allowed Frasure to use her cell phone and that he wouldn’t return it upon request, police said.

The woman said that Frasure became very aggressive and punched her in the face, which resulted in her falling to the ground, according to the report.

When the woman fell to the ground, Frasure continued to punch her approximately 20 times and also kicked her in the legs while she was on the ground, police said.

Officers noted the woman had a large bump over her left eye, bruising to her left jaw, eye and bumps on the back of her head, according to the report.

On July 14, officers located Frasure near the corner of Wayne Ave. and E. Poplar St. and attempted to interview him regarding the incident but he declined to speak with them, police said.

Frasure was then charged, arrested and booked inside the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.

He appeared in front of 6th District Magistrate Judge David Hooste for an arraignment hearing on July 14, during which his bond was set at $25,000.

Frasure is due back in court on Aug. 22 for a preliminary hearing that will involve local prosecutors attempting to prove there is enough evidence against him to elevate the case from the magistrate to district court level for trial.

If convicted of the felony aggravated assault charge, he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Prosecutors also filed a persistent violator enhancement against him, which could increase any sentence levied against him by no less than five years and up to life in prison.
