POCATELLO — Rick Phillips, manager of public affairs at Simplot, has announced his plans to retire from the company at the end of the month.

Phillips was born and raised in Southeast Idaho. He is a graduate from Utah State University. After working a few different jobs for a few years, he finally found his place at Simplot.

"I've had 34 years with Simplot," he said, adding that he will officially retire on Aug. 31.

During his time with the company, Phillips loved working with the other people at Simplot. He said it was a joy to work with everyone who has been at Simplot over the years.

"So many men and women and their children and grandchildren have worked there," he said. "The people I work with give me a great sense of pride."

Phillips has also enjoyed the community outreach he has been able to do during his time at Simplot. Since the 1990s, Simplot has worked with local school districts to support education and local teachers.

"They've done such a great job of supporting local teachers for the work that they do," he said.

Phillips said he plans to spend time with his family during his retirement. He has children and grandchildren who live in Pocatello, so he hopes to spend more time with them.

"I don't have any big plans," he said. "I'll take it a day at a time. I'll take some time off and breathe."

The best advice Phillips can give his successor it to become involved in the community and get to know the people.

"My best advice is to get to know the people," he said. "That's the secret to success. Get to know and love the people."

Phillips has enjoyed his time with the company and now looks forward to this new chapter in his life.

"I love the Simplot family," he said.
