A Caldwell woman who was breastfeeding while driving drunk has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison.

Ryann Ashley Holland, 29, was sentenced Tuesday to serve 25 years in prison for a 2023 crash that seriously injured one adult and four children, the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office announced in a news release. Holland must serve 10 years of that sentence before she is eligible for parole and will have her driver’s license suspended for five years following her release.

Holland was arrested in December 2023 after she was involved in a three-car crash at the intersection of Orchard Avenue and North Fitzwilliam Street in Nampa, the release states. Holland was breastfeeding her six-month-old baby at the time of the crash, and a 2-year-old child was also in the back seat of the vehicle when the crash occurred, the release says. Holland’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.271 at the time of the crash.

One of the vehicles contained an adult and four juveniles who were injured.

Before causing that crash, Holland was seen on traffic cameras “driving erratically through Nampa” and was involved in a hit-and-run with a vehicle near North Canyon Street and Second Street South, the release says.

Holland was sentenced on five felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence.

“The sheer recklessness shown by the defendant in this case warrants the lengthy sentence that Judge (Gene A.) Petty handed down,” Canyon County Prosecutor Bryan Taylor said in the release. “Her complete lack of regard for her children’s safety and the other drivers is almost beyond belief. I’m hopeful she uses her time in prison to think about the mistakes that she made and get the help she needs.”
