BLACKFOOT — Firefighters in Blackfoot battled a blaze inside a home on Hoff Drive on Monday evening.

The fire was first reported around 5 p.m. by residents of the home, who discovered that a laser engraver malfunctioned and caught fire, according to Blackfoot Fire Chief Byron Howell.

The blaze spread from the engraver but was contained within the room of origin, which was located in the back, lower portion of the home, Howell said.

The fire did result in damages to the room of origin, the exterior of the home near that room and a large portion of a deck, said Howell, adding that the entire home suffered smoke damage.

The residents of the home self-evacuated after dialing 911, and there were no other evacuations because of the blaze, according to Howell.

Nobody was injured and no pets were killed.

Firefighters had the fire controlled quickly upon arrival and cleared the scene around 7 p.m., Howell said.

The residents of the home, which was insured, will be temporarily displaced until the smoke damage can be taken care of, Howell said.

    The fire remains under investigation.
