IDER, Ala. (WHNT) — A Michigan man has been arrested in connection with a theft ring that has taken place in multiple areas.

According to the Ider Police Department (IPD), On Saturday, May 25, a local business in Ider notified the IPD of a scam that happened resulting in just under $500 dollars being stolen using gift cards.

IPD tells News 19 that Davis had on clothing and items from a previous theft that happened which gave officers probable cause for his arrest.

According to IPD, similar scams have been reported in Calhoun, Etowah, Marshall, Jackson, and Dekalb County. Cities in Georgia have also reported being affected by similar crimes pointing to Davis as the suspect.

A more thorough investigation will be conducted to determine how many more stores have fallen victim to this scam. What we do know, is multiple thousands of dollars have been taken. We are currently working with multiple Counties and Police Departments to stop these types of theft rings and collecting video evidence to pursue further charges.
