Raiders Make Starting Quarterback Decision: Report

The Las Vegas Raiders will reportedly name Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback for the 2024 season, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network 's Tom Pelissero on Sunday (August 18).

Minshew, 28, reportedly beat out second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell , who went 5-5 as the starter in 2023, with all five victories coming under then-interim head coach Antonio Pierce , who was promoted to a full-time position in January .

"The #Raiders are naming Gardner Minshew their starting QB, per sources. Coach Antonio Pierce just informed the QBs of his decision after a camp battle between Minshew and Aidan O’Connell. Minshew Mania continues in Las Vegas, which opens Sept. 8 vs. the #Chargers ," Pelissero wrote on his X account.

Minshew went 7-6 as a starter for the Indianapolis Colts in 2023 after rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson , the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, suffered a season-ending injury. The former Washington State standout threw for a career-best 3,305 yards on 305 of 490 passing, as well as 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
