Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey reportedly agreed to a four-year, $72 million contract extension, which includes $50 million in guarantees, making him the highest-paid center in NFL history, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN 's Adam Schefter .

"ESPN Sources: Chiefs and Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey reached agreement on a four-year, $72 million extension, including $50 million guaranteed. Humphrey now becomes the highest-paid center in NFL history. Deal negotiated by Ken Sarnoff and Andy Simms of 1 of 1 Agency," Schefter wrote on his X account Thursday (August 22) night. "Two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super-Bowl champion Creed Humphrey now is contractually tied to the Chiefs through the 2028 season."

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid praised Humphrey while addressing the reported extension after Thursday's preseason loss to the Chicago Bears.

"He's a heck of a football player, a real good football player," Reid said via ESPN . "He started off that way and he kept it going that way. So we appreciate all he does and we appreciate having him here."

Humphrey, a second-team All-Pro selection in 2022, didn't address reporters after Thursday's game. The former Oklahoma University standout was selected by the Chiefs at No. 63 overall in the second-round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has started every game during his three-year career, which includes Kansas City's back-to-back Super Bowl victories.
