Pat Mahomes Sr. , the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes , pleaded guilty to a felony third-offense driving while intoxicated charge in Smith County, Texas, on Tuesday (August 27), according to court records obtained by TMZ Sports .

Mahomes, 54, entered the plea prior to being scheduled to stand trial and will be sentenced on September 23. A third-offense DWI charge carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Mahomes, who announced his sobriety earlier this month, was also reportedly busted for driving with an invalid license in Tyler, Texas, on June 29, less than five months after being arrested for third-offense DWI in the same city, according to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports at the time. The former Major League Baseball pitcher's arrest came eight days before his son led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl in five years.

The elder Mahomes was in attendance as his son won his third Super Bowl, throwing for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 34 of 47 passing. Patrick Mahomes is widely regarded as the best quarterback in the NFL and the face of the league, having won two Associated Press regular-season MVP awards and three Super Bowl MVPs in eight seasons.
