Halsey is fighting with themself — literally — in the newest track off their upcoming "confessional" concept album The Great Impersonator .

On Friday (September 6), the "Lucky" singer shared their latest single "Ego," a '90s-inspired track that describes an inner battle where they're "nervous what you'll think of me now" and wonders, "I think that I should try to kill my ego/ 'Cause if I don't, my ego might kill me."

As Halsey sings, "nothing's as it seems" in the song's accompanying music video, written and directed by the singer. What starts as a dinner between two different versions of Halsey quickly devolves into a battle where the pair chase each other throughout the house. Just when you think one Halsey has the upper hand, the tides change and the stalker becomes the stalked before the pair break out into a knock-down, drag-out fight that ends just as suddenly as it began.

Check out the music video for "Ego" below.

"Ego" is the fourth single off Halsey's forthcoming album The Great Impersonator , out next month. The singer recently shared the inspiration behind the album they thought could be their last amid their private health battles .

" When you get sick like that , you start thinking about ways it could have all been different," they continued. "What if this isn't how it all went down? 18-year-old Ashely becomes Halsey in 2014, what if I debuted in the early 2000s? The '90s? The '80s? The '70s?"

They continued, "Am I still Halsey every time, in every timeline? Do I still get sick? Do I become a mom? Am I happy, lonely? Have I done enough? Have I told the truth? I spent half my life being someone else, I never stopped to ask myself, 'If it all ended right now, is this the person you'd be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?'"

While revealing the mesmerizing album cover on Instagram , Halsey told fans, "I made this record in the space between life and death. And it feels like I've waited an eternity for you to have it. I'll wait a bit longer. I've waited a decade, already."

The Great Impersonator drops October 25.
