Entities partner for new youth sports facility in Independence

The City of Independence and the Minnesota Twins have teamed up with Orono Softball and Baseball Associations to support the creation of a new youth sports facility in Independence. The City of Independence has approved development on the land for this project, and the Minnesota Twins have provided a $100,000 grant, both underscoring their commitment to fostering youth sports and community development.

The impact of this grant will allow for development to move forward of a four-field facility which will feature a state-of-the art four-plex, consisting of four fields designed to accommodate both baseball and softball games. This joint project is a partnership between Orono Baseball Association (OBA) and Orono Softball Association (OSA), in a unified effort to enhance youth sports facilities and foster community. The new facility will cater to kids of all ages, providing a safe and modern environment for them to learn, play, and grow through sports.

“The impact of the Twins’ grant, in conjunction with the land development approval by the City of Independence, will enable the construction of this impressive facility and allow a community gathering place for youth baseball and softball for many years to come,” said Anne Hess, Orono Softball Association President.

To complete this project, OSA and OBA are actively seeking additional funding and donations. They encourage community members and local businesses to contribute to this meaningful project.
