INDIANAPOLIS — Two people were arrested after an alleged robbery led to a shooting on the near north side of Indianapolis early Tuesday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, detectives with the department’s aggravated assault unit arrested 20-year-old David Tillman and a 17-year-old accomplice in relation to the reported robbery/shooting.

Just after 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday, officers with the department’s north district responded to the 1600 block of College Avenue on a report of a person who was shot. When police arrived, they located a man on the sideway with apparent gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

After the shooting, officers were given a description of the suspects from witnesses at the scene, which was then broadcast to other officers in the area via the radio.

The release said that detectives were able to view camera footage of the incident, which reportedly showed a suspect “forcefully taking a gun out of the victim’s pocket.” The victim then attempted to get the gun back and a fight reportedly occurred as the second suspect jumped in. After the suspects had control of the firearm, the victim was then reportedly shot.

During the investigation, police learned that the suspects had possibly been spotted nearby while entering an apartment building. The release said that officers later identified them as the suspects after they briefly opened the door of the apartment. Detectives were granted a search warrant for the apartment and the two suspects, identified as Tillman and the 17-year-old, were taken into custody.

Officials said that the apartment search reportedly uncovered the clothing the two men were seen wearing in the video footage of the incident, as well as a handgun and “several individually packaged baggies of narcotics.”

Tillman was arrested for preliminary charges of robbery and aggravated assault, as well as two active warrants in Marion County for parole violations. The release said that the 17-year-old was also arrested.
