INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A shot was fired at officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on the city’s near east side on Thursday.

At 3:30 p.m. Thursday, IMPD officers were searching for a suspect who was wanted on a warrant in a separate investigation near the 5100 block of East 21st Street. When the officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, he fled on foot, initiating a foot pursuit with officers. During the foot pursuit, at least one shot was fired at officers.

No officers were injured in the shooting and no officers returned fire.

Investigators described the suspect as a Black male, 5 feet 5 inches tall, around 180 pounds, wearing a black tank top, blue jean shorts, with dreads just above the shoulders. According to investigators, officers will be in the area with a heavy police presence for the foreseeable future. Investigators ask that residents stay out of the area for the time being.
