NFL analyst shares who they think will be the Colts MVP for the 2024 season

Training camps around the NFL kick off later this month, with members of the Indianapolis Colts set to report on July 24 .

Before the 2024 NFL season begins, NFL.com writer Eric Edholm shared who he believes will be each AFC team's MVP .

And his selection for the Colts wasn't surprising in the slightest.

Edholm chose star RB Jonathan Taylor as his MVP for the 2024 Colts. Here is his explanation:

The Colts have some standout performers on both sides of the ball who could make excellent choices. If QB Anthony Richardson can make it through the season healthy, or even relatively so, he's an obvious candidate. But one of my bigger reasons for not picking Richardson is my lingering fear of the shoulder injury that ended his 2023 season early, a setback which still appeared to be limiting him as recently as last month . That's not terribly encouraging, even if GM Chris Ballard said the QB will be " full-go " by training camp. Shoulder injuries can be tricky, and I'll feel better about Richardson after seeing him log some real, uninhibited snaps.

Taylor is somewhat of a leap-of-faith pick, given that he's coming off his worst statistical season, and he's now turned in less than a complete body of work on the field for two years in a row. But I have faith he'll revert back to the production he put up in Years 1 and 2 of his pro career, when he was the Colts' unquestioned workhorse. Last year's contract drama is a distant memory, and he started looking healthier and more dynamic down the stretch in 2023. Last we saw him, in the Week 18 loss to Houston, Taylor tore up the Texans for 188 rushing yards.

    - Eric Edholm

Like I said earlier, I think Edholm chose the obvious choice for the Colts in Taylor. Taylor is by far the most proven commodity on the team's offense, and he has shown he can be the engine that makes the Colt's offense go if need be.

I must say, though, that while I believe most people would pick Taylor as their MVP for the Colts in 2024, I don't personally agree. I think Colts head coach Shane Steichen wants to throw the ball at a much higher rate than what we have seen during Taylor's time with the team. If everything goes according to plan, my pick for the team's MVP would be QB Anthony Richardson.

His ability to impact the game with both his arm and his legs could be truly dynamic. He will be given a solid opportunity to show what he can do during his sophomore season, both through the air and on the ground. If he can stay healthy, he might make franchise history during his first full season as a starter with his ability as a runner.

I think the Colts will go as far as Richardson is able to lead them, too, in 2024. And if Richardson is able to shock the world with a big second-year performance, the Colts could be a dark horse to make some noise in the strong AFC .
