    DPS: I-40 traffic stop yields 2 arrests, 10 pounds of cocaine found in Carson County

    More than 10 pounds of suspected cocaine was seized, and two people were arrested during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Carson County, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

    At about 5:39 p.m. Thursday, July 4, a a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a 2024 Ford Edge that had been traveling east on I-40 near Groom for a traffic violation. During the stop, the Trooper found five tape-wrapped bricks of suspected cocaine concealed inside the trunk area.

    DPS Special Agents then assisted with the investigation.

    The driver, identified as Patris Mundy, 58, and passenger, Danelle Hopkins, 44, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, were arrested and booked into the Carson County Jail on charges for felony possession of a controlled substance.

    The drugs were reportedly being taken from Phoenix, Arizona, to an unknown destination in Indiana.
