    IMPD: 3 arrested on weapons, drug charges after disturbance at basketball game

    Officials with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said that they will not pursue charges in the cases against the three individuals in regards to this incident.

    INDIANAPOLIS — Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s southeast district arrested three men after firearms were reportedly displayed during a disturbance that occurred at a basketball game.

    According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, officers were called to the Christian Park basketball courts at around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday in regards to a disturbance. A 911 caller told dispatch a man with no shirt, red shorts and red shoes was reportedly pointing a firearm at people and threatening to shoot.

    When officers arrived on scene, they were directed to a 20-year-old man, who witnesses said was the person who reportedly pointed the firearm. Springs was sitting in the driver’s seat of a silver vehicle when officers approached.

    At this time, a second suspect in the car, identified as a 22-year-old man, reportedly opened the passenger side door and began to reach around the floorboard and under the passenger seat. The post said IMPD officers saw the man “moving around and gave him loud verbal commands to show his hands.” After [the second man] complied, both men in the vehicle were detained.

    The post said marijuana was spotted “in plain view” inside the vehicle. An extended magazine was also spotted in between the driver’s seat and center console. A search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana as well as two handguns. one of which was previously reported stolen.

    Another person at the scene, identified by police as a 27-year-old man was also reportedly involved in the disturbance and was armed with a gun. After he was detained, the post read a stolen handgun was found inside a holster attached to a pair of jeans. When police spoke with the third man, he claimed ownership of the stolen firearm.

    According to the post, the first suspect was arrested for pointing a firearm and possession of marijuana. The other two suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen firearm.
