Indianapolis’s suburbs are once again among Indiana's highest test performers, ILEARN results released Wednesday show.

Four of the nine suburban Indianapolis counties were in the top 15 school districts for both English and math proficiency: Brownsburg Community School Corporation, Carmel-Clay Schools, Zionsville Community Schools and Westfield-Washington Schools.

ILEARN tests are administered annually to students between third and eighth grade and cover English and math. ILEARN also tests fourth and sixth-grade students for science and fifth-grade students for social students. The tests are designed to serve as checkpoints for student progress.

Brownsburg Community Schools continues its streak as the state’s top performer despite a small drop from last year, with 62.6% of students proficient in both categories.

Carmel-Clay Schools came in second in the state with 61.3% proficiency rates in both English and math. Brownsburg topped the math proficiency list at 73.5%, and tied with Carmel-Clay to top the state's English proficiency at 69.6%.

Westfield-Washington Schools saw the biggest increase among Indianapolis suburban districts in the annual combined scores, with nearly a 9% increase in proficiency from 2023. Other Indy area districts remained within a few points of last year's scores.
