The FBI searched the Indianapolis home of a former congressional candidate Wednesday, though it's unclear why.

The agency confirmed to IndyStar that it executed a search warrant at a near eastside house where public records show Gabriel Whitley lives — news first reported by IndyPolitics. There is no indication anyone was arrested.

Whitley, who ran in the Republican primary in Indiana's 7th Congressional District, declined to comment when approached by a reporter at the home. Around 3:30 p.m., Whitley posted to Facebook that he is "OK" and that he would make a statement "when the time is right."

"It's a on going investigation about corruption happening in our community," he wrote. "Thank you for our wonderful law enforcement doing their job."

Bobby Kern, who also lives at the home and ran for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor this month, told IndyStar that agents searched the home Wednesday morning and confiscated Whitley's devices. The FBI declined to comment on the subject of its investigation.

Complaints filed with the Federal Election Commission this year accused Whitley of filing excessive campaign contributions and fraudulent donors during his congressional run. After he dropped a mayoral campaign in Evansville in early 2023, the Evansville Courier & Press reported he had raised thousands from donors who said they'd never heard from him.

Whitley ultimately lost the 7th District primary to Jennifer Pace despite the fact that she died after filing her candidacy and before the primary. A caucus of party insiders selected her replacement on the ballot, John Schmitz , whose campaign sign is in Whitley's lawn.
