After showcasing his remarkable scoring prowess in his first five seasons with the Indiana Pacers, Reggie Miller felt he was already a prominent figure when Team USA mustered the original Dream Team.

With that in mind, "Uncle Reg" has a deep-seated belief that he should have been a member of the iconic squad that dominated the '92 Barcelona Olympics alongside Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird. Unfortunately, his name wasn't called up.

"I definitely felt like I belonged," Miller lamented in 2014 via Bleacher Report .

    Reggie was on a roll

Taking a quick trip down memory lane, Miller was approaching the pinnacle of his career at the time. Indeed, his numbers present a strong case for his Dream Team inclusion, having played in all 82 games in the past three consecutive seasons before '92 and averaged over 20 points with over 50% accuracy of the field.

Stating the obvious, Reggie was on a roll back then and was certain he was still peaking. That said, the wiry sharpshooter felt snubbed when he was not chosen to be a part of history.

"I was just coming off that playoff run against the Knicks," Miller recounted. "The Pacers were entering our stage of being consistent contenders, the All-Star berths were about to pick up for me...I was entering my wheelhouse."

Dream Team II believe they could edge the originals

Despite not making it to the original Dream Team, Miller was recruited into the Dream Team II in 1994, a star-studded Team USA squad that won gold in the FIBA World Championships. Though the roster did not have MJ, Magic, and Bird, Dream Team II was also stacked with Miller, Shaquille O'Neal, Dominique Wilkins, and Alonzo Mourning, among others.

In recent years, hoops fans have discussed comparisons and hypothetical matchups between the original Dream Team and Dream Team II. Unsurprisingly, most Dream Team II players were confident they would have beaten the originals.

"'They can't f*** with us," Dream Team II forward Derrick Coleman once said . "They can't f*** with us!' Look, man, I got the 'Eighth Wonder of the World', man, Shaquille O'Neal, bro. Who do you want to put at the forward – me, Shawn Kemp, Larry Johnson??!? I got Joe (Dumars) and Mark Price at my guards, and Tim Hardaway and Kevin Johnson. Come on, man. Dominique Wilkins. And 'Nique' should have been on the first one. Alonzo Mourning. And Reggie Miller! And Dan Majerle! And me and Steve from Michigan. Come on, man. Yeah!"

While the debate will never be settled on the court, it continues to be a lively topic of discussion among basketball enthusiasts. As for Miller, people can say what they want but it could never change the harsh truth that he was left out in the original Dream Team.
