Thousands of Catholics will parade down Meridian Street and Capital Avenue on Saturday to celebrate the revival of the Eucharist as part of the National Eucharistic Congress.

About 50,000 people traveled nationwide to downtown Indianapolis as part of a three-year movement in the Catholic Church in hopes of addressing American Catholics' spiritual apathy toward the Eucharist after church leaders discovered only a third of American Catholics, believe that Jesus Christ's presence resides in the Eucharist. This is a core belief of Catholicism.

After spending a week of spiritual reflection, tens of thousands of Catholics will celebrate their rekindled love and understanding of the Eucharist as they walk in adoration in Saturday's Eucharistic procession.

Followers of Christ will be partaking in the Eucharistic procession, a holy parade where they follow the Sacrament that is placed in a monstrance and carried out of the church by a priest.

The Eucharistic procession will start at 3 p.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. The procession route will start at North Meridian Street and end at Capitol Avenue.

To ensure the safety of those partaking in the Eucharistic procession, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department will be closing the following roads from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
