Anthony Alfredo points blame at Daniel Dye after wreck with Parker Retzlaff at Indy

Late in the NASCAR Pennzoil 250 at Indianapolis, Anthony Alfredo slowed way down on the track and his car turned into traffic. It caused a huge impact with Parker Retzlaff who didn’t see the slow car until it was too late. Alfredo’s No. 5 lifted up off the ground when he was hit from behind.

Josh Williams was also involved in the crash. The 11 car took a big impact into the rear of the 31 and then into the outside wall. All drivers were released from the infield care center.

This was a huge hit for all three drivers. Anthony Alfredo explained himself after the race.

“Something broke in the steering after I got put in the fence in [Turn] One by the 10 car [Daniel Dye],” Alfredo told Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports. “I hit the wall, it definitely cut the right front so it went straight into [Turn] Two, and I think something was broke because the wheel just went all the way left so then when I bounced it off the fence it went all the way to the right, and I was just unwinding the wheel and it wasn’t doing anything. So, I tried slowing down and when I hit the brake it just pulled harder left.

“Now I’m the guy that took two cars out by shooting down the track like that because I got put in the fence off of One. So, obviously, I’m embarrassed and feel horrible for those guys but if I could have done anything different, I certainly would have.”

Anthony Alfredo noted that this was the first DNF for his team this season. A tough end to what was shaping up to be a solid weekend.

Anthony Alfredo cuts Daniel Dye some slack

This season has been a good one for Anthony Alfredo. He is in the hunt for the playoffs. However, this result won’t help him much. To his credit, Alfredo wasn’t that upset with Daniel Dye.

Dye hasn’t raced in the Xfinity Series much. He’s only running part-time for Kaulig Racing on top of his Truck Series duties. Alfredo is gonna chalk it up to inexperience instead of malice.

“I mean I’ve never run the oval either, but I know not to put my car in that position but he’s also a lot newer to the Xfinity Series,” Alfredo continued to Pockrass. “So, I’m not going to get super mad about that. You know, we made an adjustment there and got too far on the other side of it so I was kind of going backwards a little bit anyways. I would say that was a racing deal. It’s just unfortunate that it led to, you know, something break in the suspension and a big wreck. I hate that for everybody but hopefully we can move on [from it] and you know, have a good break, come back, go win Daytona.”

Sometimes, it’s just racing. Anthony Alfredo is taking the high road here for the most part. He said what caused the wreck, and the replay backs him up. Dye put him in the wall and it led to three cars being wrecked out of the race, including Dye’s teammate, Josh Williams.

Meanwhile, the 10 car went on to run P7. This is the second top-10 for Dye this season. His first was at Iowa Speedway. That probably won’t make Alfredo feel much better, either.
