Chase Elliott had one of the best cars in Stage 1 of the 2024 Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but his track position was severely impacted after a penalty. While exiting pit road, Elliott used a wide arc into Turn 2 and entered the racing surface. Based on the rules from NASCAR, the Hendrick Motorsports driver committed a blend line violation and received a penalty.

However, Elliott was absolutely livid on the radio and let his frustrations with NASCAR be known. The driver of the No. 9 car didn’t hold back and expressed significant anger following the penalty.

“That’s not right. I did exactly what the [expletive] sheet said to do,” Elliott said. “I mean, what the [expletive]?! […] do exactly what they [expletive] tell us to do. They didn’t say line, they said racing surface, so you tell me how the [expletive] I was on the racing surface.”… Those pieces of [expletive] are sitting up there not doing a [expletive] thing.”

Elliott clearly went on the racing surface as he passed the two white lines, but NASCAR should have explained the rule better to the drivers and teams. The Hendrick Motorsports driver still rebounded to finish in 10th place and had the same strategy as race winner Kyle Larson. Yet, Elliott will be left wondering what could’ve happened if he wasn’t called for a penalty by NASCAR.
