INDIANAPOLIS – Preparations are underway for a new roundabout in Indianapolis.

The city’s latest roundabout will be located at Post Road and Raymond Street, according to the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.

DPW said the $2 million project includes federal funding; planning started five years ago. The roundabout is intended to reduce traffic congestion.

“People are excited to reduce traffic,” said Auboni Hart with DPW. “Responses are typically mixed. We have people who are in favor, people who are not. But everyone is in favor of reduced traffic congestion.”

The utility relocation process is already underway, and drivers encountered restrictions at the intersection on Monday as that work continued.

Construction on the roundabout itself is expected to start in mid-August, with the full closure of the intersection slated to start at the end of August. Construction is expected to last about 60 days, DPW said.

The project also includes new sidewalks, better curbs and improved storm drainage.
