Coming up on August 28th through September 2nd, Tony Stewart will be racing at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in the NHRA U.S. Nationals. It will mark the first time that the two-time Brickyard 400 champion will be competing in the drag racing nationals.
Stewart has essentially raced in every form of racing now. The 53-year-old has driven in NASCAR, IndyCar, NHRA, SRX, IROC, and countless others.
Stewart joined Jake Query and Jimmy Cook on Tuesday afternoon on Query & Company to discuss:
- How difficult the transition to NHRA was
- If he will race his wife once she delivers their baby
- The decision to shut down Stewart Haas Racing after this season
Something that the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame member shared on the show is something that a lot of race face have asked for when he was asked about NASCAR’s return to the oval.
“In my opinion it has to be on the oval. They have a beautiful road course, it’s great to be able to take the opportunity to run one weekend with IndyCars on it and then run the Indy 500 after that. For stock cars, the oval is where they need to be, not the road course at Indianapolis. I foresee in the future that someday the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will have lights around it and that Brickyard can run at night. It would put on a show that the fans would love. Stewart shared.”
It would be so cool being able to watch any form of racing at the world’s greatest racecourse at night. Racing the Brickyard at night could draw in more fans to attend because of the time of day, weather, and it being a different experience.
