City of Sonoma Agrees to New Ten-Year Garbage Contract
The city of Sonoma has signed a new 10-year waste disposal contract with Sonoma Garbage Collectors. The new contract lasts through 2034 and includes a one-time 20-percent increase in collection and utility rates that took effect July 1st. The new rates are $27.49 per month for service of the popular 32 gallon trash bin. Sonoma now has the second lowest rates in the county as opposed to the lowest, which it just had.

Parts of Sonoma Overlook Trail Damaged by Water Tank
Sections of the Sonoma Overlook Trail are damaged after a water tank overflowed during routine maintenance last week. Sonoma city officials say the water tank on Norrbom Road overflowed last Tuesday while divers were examining the tank for signs of corrosion or damage. The water flowed through a protected path on the Overlook Trial, causing it to erode. Officials say the trail remains open and hikers are not in any danger by using the trail. Maintenance teams will be out on the trail today fixing the damage.

Sonoma Valley Hospital is being praised as one of the most socially responsible acute-care hospitals in the state of California. The nonpartisan health care think tank Lown Institute Hospitals Index released its annual report last week ranking the nation’s health care facilities. Sonoma Valley Hospital was ranked the second-most socially responsible acute-care hospital in California. It also made the top ten list for hospitals across the country. Ukiah’s Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Hospital ranked number one for California and number four nationwide.

Three Men Arrested for Stealing a Tractor in Windsor
Three men are facing charges in connection to the theft of a tractor in Windsor. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office says deputies arrested Refugio Carrillo, Rodrigo Lopez and Damian Rosales last week Monday. The three are accused of stealing a Kubota Skid Steer tractor last month along with some building materials. Police were patrolling Cross Creek Road in Santa Rosa when they spotted the stolen tractor.
Heat Advisory in Effect Today Through Sunday for Most of the Bay Area and Northern California
A dangerous new heat wave is hitting California this holiday week. The Excessive Heat Warning begins Tuesday and lasts through Sunday evening with many places baking in temperatures 20-degrees above average. Santa Rosa is set to reach a high of 106 degrees today. Napa is expected to reach a high of 104. Triple digit temperatures and very warm overnight lows are expected into the weekend in the North Bay mountains and interior valleys. The region is facing heightened wildfire risk due strong northerly winds and low humidity. Forecasters also warn heat stroke is a real possibility especially as millions in California plan to be outside celebrating the Fourth of July.
