Colts Seeing Positive Early Returns From Laitu Latu

The Colts put on the pads for the first time on Tuesday, as training camp begins to heat up.

One player that stood out from the first day of contact was rookie defensive end Laitu Latu. Latu showcased his speed in reps against the Colts backup and 1 st -team offensive lineman, winning more than one matchup.

The positive signs from Latu are much needed, as the Colts defensive line will be without veteran Samson Ebukam, who posted 9.5 sacks in 2023, for the entire season as he recovers from a torn Achilles.

During the Tuesday edition of The Ride With JMV, James Boyd of The Athletic joined the show, and spoke about what he has seen so far from the Colts 1 st -round draft pick.

“He’s been good! It was pretty quiet throughout the first few days of camp because there are no pads, there’s not a lot of contact, and you’re wondering ‘Okay, is this guy really good as they say?’ but, he had a rep in 11-on-11 which is about as realistic as football is going to get at this point in the season, where he beat Bernhard Raimann, the starting left tackle, off the edge then chased down Anthony Richardson, and I truly believe had this been a game, Anthony would have had to throw it in the dirt, or he would have been sacked. It was one of those things where he was chasing him down, he’s so fast, that even Anthony couldn’t really outrun him. I thought that was impressive…There were a few more plays where he was just disruptive throughout the day. So he’s been perhaps a little bit better than I expected, at least today he was.”
