Pacers GM Chad Buchanan On Tyrese Haliburton, Team USA

Team USA has been dominating as expected in the first few games of the Olympics.

On Wednesday, they beat South Sudan 103-86, in a game that never was really in doubt. The roster for Team USA is loaded, with players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry headlining. With a roster so full of talent, one of the problems that eventually arises is the matter of playing time. Basically, who are you going to bench?

So far, it seems the answer has been Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton.

Up until Wednesday’s game against South Sudan, Haliburton had been riding the pine since the end of the exhibition games. He finally made his Olympic debut against South Sudan and would finish the blowout victory with 6 points and one assist. Despite the lack of playing time, Haliburton has appeared to be the model teammate, cheering on his fellow Olympians as Team USA gets closer and closer to a gold medal.

During Wednesday’s edition of The Ride With JMV, Pacers GM Chad Buchanan joined the show and shared his thoughts on his star player’s Olympic debut.

“Yeah, it was good to see him out there. Still feel like he deserves more than he’s getting, but he’s handling it like a pro and being a good teammate.”

Chad also indicated that he believes that at some point, Team USA will need Haliburton and his skill set.

“You play these games where you have a hard time generating easy looks, that the other teams closed the game down, and that’s where Tyrese could really kick start your offense, kick start some open looks and increase the pace of play like we see him do for the Pacers…But they have so much talent on that team, it would be difficult to get everybody the minutes that they deserve, but I’m happy for him at the end of the day. He’s representing our country, and he’s doing it in a first-class manner, and he’s supporting his teammates, so you can’t be too disappointed. I think he deserves more, but I’m happy he’s there.”
