In their heyday, Airstreams were the epitome of traveling in style — shiny, sleek, comfortable, and towable. Founder Wally Byam first got the wheels turning for the timeless trailers in 1929 when his wife Marion expressed her exasperation with tent camping.

He began experimenting with toppers for a Model T chassis, starting with canvas before opting for metal, and decided it was “a pretty good business to get into.” Wally was right, and like his last name, people started to buy ‘em .

Whether you have a taste for nostalgia or simply don’t have a vehicle with a hitch, here are a couple places in central Indiana to live out your Airstream daydream.

A groovy city getaway

This remodeled, peaceful ’71 Airstream is a staycationer’s dream, surrounded by comfy outdoor seating, AstroTurf grass, a propane fire pit, strings of Edison lights, and a hot tub. It’s also within biking distance to Broad Ripple Village and The Monon Trail, with two bikes included for use during your stay.

Just over an hour from the heart of Indy is this 2021 Airstream with every modern convenience you could imagine. You’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the idyllic fields and garden surrounding the trailer, and can even tour the host’s 1971 31' Sovereign Airstream that they’re in the process of remodeling.

A romantic Nashville refuge
