KSP CHECKPOINTS ANNOUNCED FOR JULY, 2024
ASHLAND, Ky. (July 1, 2024) – The Kentucky State Police, Ashland Post 14, which provides coverage for Boyd, Carter, Lawrence and Carter counties, will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints approved by the Kentucky State Police Policy and Procedures Manual. These checkpoints will be conducted in an effort to enforce the traffic laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Special attention will be paid to seatbelt usage, sobriety, insurance and registration violations.
MCSO: Tennessee man jailed following high-speed chase
A Tennessee man was arrested and jailed last week after he allegedly struck a parked vehicle and then led officers on a high-speed chase through Williamson. According to Mingo County Magistrate Court documents, on June 21, Harby Geovany Bavios Leiva, 18 — who police said is not a U.S. citizen — was driving a Chevrolet Camaro on Second Avenue when he struck a parked vehicle near the Tracks End restaurant and failed to stop.
Former Paintsville doctor pleads guilty to federal drug trafficking charges
A former Paintsville doctor has entered a guilty plea in a federal drug trafficking case in U.S. District Court. According to court documents, Don C. Bryson, who previously surrendered his medical license as a result of investigations into his controlled substance prescribing practices, was working as a medical consultant for Appalachian Family Medicine. The business was raided in January of 2022.

For several hours, the man barricaded himself in an apartment. Witnesses said the suspect threatened a woman and her kids, adding he felt sorry for her. After several hours, the man turned himself in and was taken to the Kentucky River Regional Jail and is facing several charges. This was on Combs Road in Airport Gardens.
