A Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance was briefly stolen by a patient in South Los Angeles Thursday morning, though the vehicle was later recovered and the patient arrested in Inglewood.

The patient, who has not been identified, “appeared to be experiencing a psychiatric crisis” near the intersection of Gage Avenue and Hoover Street in Vermont-Slauson, the LAFD said in an alert .

While the LAFD was on scene, the patient “commandeered the rescue ambulance (identified as RA57) and left the scene without any ambulance personnel on board,” the release said.

The ambulance was found “shortly after in Inglewood,” and the Inglewood Police Department took the person into custody.

    No injuries were reported.
