Arya is a blue heeler, also known as an Australian cattle dog . These members of the working dog class are excellent herders. They are born with the instinct to “herd.” Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what animal is in front of them. A herding dog will round up sheep, cattle, goats, or the occasional poodle. That can be tricky when one of your friends is a floofy poodle, and you mistake her for a sheep.

Admittedly, Arya’s poodle friend somewhat resembles a sheep. Although much skinnier, a standard poodle’s size is comparable to that of a full-grown sheep. The poodle belongs to Sarah Patch, who visited Arya for a puppy playdate. Seeing the poodle from a distance, Arya went into a herding stance as the poodle stood on the back porch.

The porch railing makes it difficult to see the poodle fully in the above video, but we went to her mom’s TikTok for a good picture. Sitting on the couch with her favorite stuffed kitten, you can certainly see the sheepish resemblance.

Knowing that Arya is hardwired for herding as a herding dog, mistaking her friend for a sheep is understandable. We’re sure the two had a wonderful playdate after the dust settled. Arya also has a cute cattle dog sister named Billy.

If you’re considering adopting a herding dog, you should know they are very energetic . They need a large yard to run and play in. They can become bored and mischievous without stimulating activities, including playdates with other animals . As medium-sized dogs, they stand around 17 to 20 inches tall and very muscular. They are loyal and protective of their “herd,” including you and your entire family.
