One little girl got the warmest welcome on her first day of school. Officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department made sure that 7-year-old Gia got escorted to school in style. Watch the heartwarming video.

Sheriff Deputy Loses Battle With Cancer

Gia lost her father to cancer on August 6, 2024. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared the news on its Facebook page on August 7th in a heartfelt post: “Today, we mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant and hero, Deputy Gonzalo Galvez. With more than 24 years of unwavering commitment to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Galvez exemplified bravery, integrity, and selflessness.”

It highlights some moments from his career, such as his hiring in 1999 and his position at the Special Enforcement Bureau. It ends with a thoughtful message. “His tireless efforts to protect and serve the community have left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals. We honor his legacy, remember his sacrifices, and extend our deepest condolences to his friends and loved ones.”

Sheriff Deputy’s Daughter’s First Day Of School

Gia’s mother, Racquel, told ABC News that her husband never missed their children’s first day of school. However, Gonzalo Galvez would not be able to be present for this first day of school. His fellow deputies ensured that this sheriff deputy’s daughter would not miss out on that tradition.

Good Morning America shared how several deputies lined up at the school’s entryway to welcome Gia to her first day of second grade. In the video, you can see the smile spread across her face as she recognizes her father’s colleagues. Little Gia makes her way down the line as she hugs each and every gentleman who came to support her.

Gia held a framed photo of her father as she walked down the line of her father’s “brothers.” One of those “brothers” shared the special moment on X . He captioned the many videos with, “Escorted Gonzo’s (RIP) daughter to her first day of school because that’s what family does.”

The fellow deputies followed behind Gia as she entered school, ensuring everyone knew she was a part of the family. To make the moment even more special, a helicopter flew over the school. Good Morning America said it was “in recognition of Galvez’s years of service performing helicopter reduces.”

It was so lovely to see these officers band together to support the sheriff’s deputy’s daughter. A Deputy Sheriff Paramedic told 4 Los Angeles , “We can step into that role, fulfill it for him, and be a second family for him.” The big smile on Gia’s face shows that their efforts did not go unappreciated.
