    Meet the nominees for the Press-Citizen’s Athletes of the Week, June 3-9

    With soccer, golf and tennis seasons in the rearview mirror, baseball and softball have taken the forefront in high school sports across the Iowa City area.

    Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s high school Athletes of the Week for June 3-9. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week’s winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

    Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name:

    Girls

    Avery Babbitt, Fr., Solon

    Avery Babbitt made her presence felt in an 18-0 win over South Tama on June 5.

    Babbitt earned two hits and ran in four runners to help Solon softball win its eighth win of the season.

    Mischa Reiners, Sr., Liberty

    Mischa Reiners was a big contributor during Liberty’s 10-0 shutout win over Wahlert Catholic on

    Reiners earned three hits in four plate appearances for the Lightning. She also advanced two runners.

    Gabby Sueppel, Sr., Regina Catholic

    Gabby Sueppel stepped up big during Regina’s 4-2 win over Solon on June 6.

    Sueppel earned a two-run double in the third inning which proved to be a spark in Regina’s offense.

    Ava Tague, Soph, Liberty

    Ava Tague had the hot bat during Liberty’s 13-12 win over Linn-Mar on June 5.

    Tague earned three hits and drove in two runners.

    Brenna Williams, Soph., Clear Creek Amana

    Brenna Williams played a big part in CCA’s 7-6 win over Grinnell on June 5.

    The second-year Clipper earned three hits and ran in three runners.

    Boys

    Landon Chandler, Sr., Liberty

    Chandler helped Liberty baseball earn a 9-4 win over Clear Creek Amana on June 8.

    Chandler drove in three runners to help Liberty earn its 15th win of the season.

    Jacob Koch, Sr., Iowa City West

    Koch delivered a two-RBI game in a 6-5 win over Regina Catholic on June 8.

    The fourth-year Trojan earned two hits in four plate appearances.

    Jake Mitchell, Sr., Iowa City High

    Jake Mitchell was a strong presence on the mound during Iowa City High’s 3-0 shutout win over Solon on June 8.

    The fourth-year Little Hawk pitched five scoreless innings and allowed one hit through 70 pitches.

    Vince Steinbrech, Sr., Solon

    Vince Steinbrech powered Solon’s offense in a 11-10 nailbiter over Marion on June 3.

    The fourth-year Spartan notched three hits in three at-bats, driving in six runners. He also earned a home run.

    Trey Streb, Fr., Regina Catholic

    Trey Streb had a strong performance during Regina’s 10-3 win over Durant on June 3.

    Streb tallied two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Regals.
