    From Juneteenth to the Pride Festival, here's what's happening in Iowa City this weekend:

    There is no shortage of activity in Iowa City this weekend, from significant cultural celebrations to comedy shows and exciting fundraisers, here are seven events to check out.

    Iowa City Juneteenth Celebration

    Juneteenth is an annual federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States each year on June 19. Iowa City's Juneteenth Celebration will be an evening of family-friendly entertainment with various attractions from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on June 14 at the Pedmall. The event will include live music from local musicians Blake Shaw and Alyx Rush, a fashion show from the Wright House of Fashion, and food and art vendors.

    The Iowa City Juneteenth Celebration is free and open to the public.

    Third Annual DVIP 80's Dance Party Fundraiser

    The nonprofit Iowa City Domestic Violence Intervention Project is hosting its third annual 80s dance party at 7 p.m. Friday, June 14 as a spirited fundraiser. Special guests at the James Theatre include The Foxhill Troubadours, Plastic Relations, and Cameleon Society. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

    Joe Pera at the Englert Theatre

    Best known for his hit Adult Swim series, "Joe Pera Talks with You," Joe Pera brings his stand-up comedy act, The PERAs Tour, to Iowa City's Englert Theatre on Friday, June 14. Pera's comedy is rooted in quirky, wholesome everyday observations with surreal twists. Tickets are on sale on The Englert Theatre's website from $44 to $57.

    Shakespeare in the Park: Julius Caesar

    Shakespeare in the Park returns with its first summer installation at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14 at Lower City Park. Residents can catch a free performance of "Julius Caesar" each weekend through the remainder of June. "Julius Caesar" is a tragedy about politics and power as the principal characters try to save the country they love from a threatening leader.

    BackPocket Brewing 12th Anniversary Party

    The local Coralville brewery, Backpocket Brewing, is celebrating its 12th birthday with a community party. The brewery will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, and will offer bottle sales of exclusive beers, including the 12th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout. Live music, patio games, and more will accompany the celebration throughout the day.

    NorthSide Saturday Nights

    The Northside Saturday Nights concert series is a free live music event curated by the Englert Theatre on North Linn Street. The series started in May and will run until September every Saturday at 6 p.m. Catch Ryan Bernemann and Randall Davis of the Berenemann Brothers on the northside stage on Saturday, June 15.

    The Iowa City Pride Festival and parade

    The Iowa City Pride Parade & Festival is an all-day event happening on Saturday, June 15. The parade will march through the downtown corridor at noon. The festival also opens at noon and will go until 10 p.m. The Iowa City Pride Festival includes many activities and performances, including professional drag shows and live music from local musicians, including The Quire. The festival will also have dozens of food and art vendors.
