After the 2023-24 season, the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball team lost two of their top players to the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Caitlin Clark was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Indiana Fever, and Kate Martin was taken in with the No. 18 pick in the second round by the Las Vegas Aces.

During the beginning of the 2024 season, both stars have made a remarkable impression on their new WNBA teams. Their enduring friendship has also played a pivotal role in keeping them closely connected throughout this period.

Before the Fever's game with the Seattle Storm on Thursday night, Clark gave her thoughts about Martin's WNBA start in a pregame interview. During the conversation, she openly shared her feelings about her former teammate, expressing a wish that Martin was still part of her team.

"I'm just really happy for her. She's been doing great and, honestly, I still wish she was my teammate," Clark admitted.

Clark and Martin spent four years together at Iowa. During that time, they led the Hawkeyes to two straight NCAAW National Championships, but were defeated in both title games. The two have battled once in the WNBA so far, with Martin and the Aces defeating Clark and the Fever by a final score of 99-80.
