One thing becomes abundantly clear in the quest for the best sandwich spots in Iowa City: the love knows no bounds.

Many restaurants and cafes have at least one option for sandwich lovers alike.

From classic favorites to experimental, here are five great places in the Iowa City area to enjoy a sandwich.

    Thoma's Meat Market

Thoma's Meat Market may be best known as Iowa City’s favorite butcher shop, but the store also offers daily specials and sandwiches. With five sandwiches served only using the finest cuts of meat, the staff at Thoma's specializes in elevating classic favorites, from a spicy Italian to a Cuban.

    NoDo

NoDo Iowa City specializes in sandwiches, salads, soups, wraps, and coffee. With two locations, one in downtown and one on the northside, the expansive menu caters to various tastes. With classic options such as a chicken Caesar salad wrap and traditional grilled cheese, there are more adventurous options for people looking to expand their palate. Give the ham and mango sandwich a try or the Cajun salmon melt. NoDo also has a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian options.

    The Chefs Board

Tucked away in the Iowa River Landing, The Chef’s Board is a relatively new spot in the Iowa City and Coralville area. Its limited menu puts a contemporary twist on traditional favorites, from the New Orleans-style crab cakes topped with an Iowa corn chowder to the W.L.T, an impressive rendition of the B.L.T sandwich, which uses wagyu beef instead of bacon. The restaurant provides a dining experience that is difficult to find anywhere else.

    Bread Garden Market

225 S Linn St., Iowa City

In the heart of downtown Iowa City, Bread Garden Market is beloved by students, faculty, and residents alike. However, its full-service deli might be a secret to some. From a grab-and-go sandwich to a build-your-own, Bread Garden Market sandwiches are built with Boar’s Head meats and cheeses. They are decorated with locally grown produce and housemade condiments and delivered on handcrafted bread.

    DeLuxe Cake and Pastries

812 S Summit St., Iowa City

While DeLuxe Cake and Pastries serve up delicious sweet treats, they also craft several savory options. With four different baguette sandwich options, guests are transported to the bustling streets of Paris by grabbing a sandwich to go or dining in. The soppressata salami lettuce is a must-try, with fine-cut, flavorful salami on a perfectly chewy baguette. DeLuxe also sells plain baguettes, which some think is the best bread in Iowa City, perfect for building your own creation at home.
