    Iowa Park man gets suspended sentence in drunk driving death

    An Iowa Park man has been given a suspended sentenced and probation in connection with a wreck in late 2022 that killed one man and injured two others, according to court documents.

    Jerry Ashton Tidwell, 24,  pleaded guilty Friday to intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault with a vehicle and was given a 10-year suspended prison sentence, probation and a $3,000 fine.

    Intoxication manslaughter is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and intoxication assault with a vehicle is punishable by up to 10 years.

    The plea dead was finalized in 30th District Court two days after Tidwell was indicted on the charges.

    About 12:50 a.m. on Dec. 23, 2022, a pickup truck crashed into a concrete barrier at the intersection of Iowa Park Road and Sheppard Access Road, according to court documents.

    Two men were ejected from the pickup. One man, Toby Hasten, 25, of Wichita Falls, died in a hospital four days later from his injuries.

    The other man who was ejected and a third man in the pickup sustained injuries.

    Police said at the time they suspected alcohol was a factor in the crash and indicated the men had spent the night bar-hopping prior to the wreck.

    Tidwell was arrested July 13, 2023, and bonded out the same day, according to online jail records.
