Maria Doyle Kennedy, beloved Outlander actor, experienced a memorable realisation during her debut scene .

The star, who has been bringing to life Jamie's Aunt Jocasta since season four of the hit Starz series, had an insightful moment during her first filming with Sam Heughan , who stars as Jamie Fraser.

With fans eager for Maria's return in the imminent second part of season seven , she recently admitted that one aspect of playing her character was particularly daunting.

About relating to Jocasta, Maria disclosed: "Well, the most difficult thing about her, of course, is that she's blind. I had to rethink the way that I move, my physicality and how my body works."

Her preparation included detailed research into portraying blindness accurately, but some insights emerged only during actual filming.

One such insight struck her during her inaugural scene with Sam as Jamies Aunt Jocasta when she first joined in season four.

"Even though I thought about that before I started the work it wasn't until the very, very first day of filming," Maria recounted in a chat with Grand 101.1 FM.

"I did my very first scene with Sam and I suddenly realised I was not going to make eye contact with anybody for the whole season."

Maria, amidst a slew of talent on the Outlander set, grappled with unique challenges in playing her role, which hindered her from providing an essential aspect of her performance.

She opened up: "I was overwhelmed with a feeling of loneliness," and "Because it's just something I hadn't really processed before."

She continued: "We give so many cues with our eyes, we tell each other so much without words by looking and by receiving messages from people's eyes. Their intention and their emotion."

"It was quite a thing to absorb and to learn how to deal with that and how to relate to people in a more physical kind of way."

    the actress added.

Since debuting on the show in 2018, the actress has certainly cemented her place as a key member of the Outlander troupe.

Fans who are itching for the return of Claire (portrayed by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's romantic journey will be pleased that new episodes are slated for a November release, finally breaking the series' hiatus which lasted over a year.

Moreover, the world of Outlander is set to grow with the highlyawaited prequel series 'Blood of My Blood' slated to hit the screens next year.
