Last month, Atkinson faced arrest and has since been hit with charges including two counts of vehicular assault , one count each of child endangering, failing to stop after an accident, and driving under the influence. The Dayton County Prosecutor's Office released a statement saying that on July 22, an officer was alerted by a passer-by who witnessed a vehicle on Keowee Street "dragging a girl under it."
According to the police, they quickly received a barrage of 911 calls from people on scene who observed the same horrifying act. Among those was a call from the injured girl's mother, who informed the dispatcher that her daughter was knocked down by a car and "became caught in the wheels" while biking.
The statement reads: "The vehicle, a Hummer, kept going, dragging her daughter with it. The mother didn't know where her daughter was. Officers on scene with the girl administered tourniquets to the girl's legs, as they both had extensive trauma - the lower portion of her left leg, including her foot, was missing below the knee, and her right leg had significant injury as well."
A 911 caller, who witnessed the event and followed the driver, reported the incident. Anderson's vehicle was later located at the Cowboy Lido Bike Stop Bar in the 4000 block of Springfield Street, roughly 3.5 miles from where the victim was found by an officer who summoned medics to the intersection of Wayne Avenue and Clover Street.
Atkinson was pinpointed by several witnesses as he left the bar. He confessed to officers that he was "too drunk to pass," when they tried to administer a field sobriety test.
Bodycam footage obtained by LawandCrime captures Atkinson exiting the bar in a black T-shirt emblazoned with a skeleton wielding a gun and the words "Support Your Local Outlaws."
When informed by officers that they would conduct tests to determine if he was under the influence, he responded: "Oh **** that, I'm already impaired. I already know that."
Nevertheless, he consented to undergo the tests, albeit with a preemptive excuse for potential failure.
He explains: "No, wait. Before I do this, I got in a serious motorcycle accident. I got hit head-on by a drunk driver and I've got metal all the way up my leg. I've got metal in this (right) leg. I've got metal in this (left) arm."
Later in the video Atkinson admits to officers he "can't focus" and then confesses, "You know what? **** it, I'm drunk. I'll admit it. I own a bar."
Atkinson is presently locked up in Montgomery County Jail, where his bail has been set at $500,000.
