Outlander's leading lad, Sam Heughan spills the beans on his decade-long portrayal of Jamie Fraser , admitting he's a wee bit puzzled about his character's accent nowadays .

Heughan, the Scottish thespian who's been bringing Jamie Fraser to life for an impressive ten years, disclosed his uncertainties concerning his role . When we first caught a glimpse of Jamie in season one, portrayed by Heughan , he sported a thick Highlander brogue that had fans in awe upon detecting Heughan's true tones.

The actor, originally from New Galloway, then relocated to Edinburgh when he was just 12. Back in Outlander's inaugural series on Starz, Heughan tackled his fair share of Gaelic dialogue , witnessing his accent transform over the seasons.

In a heart-to-heart with Josh Horowitz, celebrating the show's 10th anniversary, Sam reflected: "I had to speak pages of Gaelic in there. I guess there was a change of accent.", reports the Daily Record . Coming clean, he revealed: "I don't really know what Jamie's accent is anymore... It's Jamie accent! ".

As we journeyed with Jamie from Scotland to North Carolina, his accent subtly shifted, yet it still stands more distinctive than Heughan's authentic accent after seven successful seasons.

Caitriona Balfe, hailing from Ireland, has also tweaked her own accent substantially for the televisual epic, adopting a Southern English tone for her part as Claire. Sam Heughan shared a moment with Caitriona Balfe, acknowledging their efforts: "But you were doing an accent as well," he noted, adding, "We definitely put in a lot of work in the beginning."

"And it's cool now, after years of playing these characters, I'm not saying you don't have to put any effort but it's already there."

"You've done the work so it's lovely just to be able to drop into the characters again."

Despite the hard work on their accents, Caitriona Balfe wasn't completely content looking back at an early episode clip. "In listening to that I'm like, 'Oh, there's still a little hint sometimes of Irish there as Claire'..." she observed.

Sam quickly reassured her, saying: "That's not true! Maybe she'd been to Ireland on her holidays."

In the series, Claire and Jamie, played by Balfe and Heughan, face new challenges in the upcoming episodes as they return to Scotland. Fans are eagerly awaiting the continuation of season seven after a hiatus of over a year, with the production for the eighth and final season underway.
