A Texas truck driver was over the moon after a snack stop during his route led to him winning the lottery. While driving through Maryland last month, the family man made a pitstop which ended with him being $50,000 wealthier.

Alongside grabbing some munchies, he bought Powerball and Mega Millions tickets , using a mix of family birthdays and random numbers for the Powerball draw on July 15. Tucking the tickets away, he continued his journey back to Texas . It was only after three days and crossing over 1,700 miles that he discovered he'd snagged a third-tier prize.

"I was on the road again and decided to check my tickets on the Powerball website," he shared with Maryland lottery officials. "I saw my matching numbers and knew it was something, but wasn't sure how much," reports the Mirror US .

He got his son involved to confirm just how much he had won. "He said, 'Dad, you almost won the jackpot,'" recounted the lucky player. "But then, he told me it was $50,000."

As it turns out, the fortunate father had matched four white balls and the red Powerball, bagging the hefty sum. He wasted no time in ringing all his relatives to celebrate his win. However, the dad found himself grappling with quite a dilemma when it came time to collect his winnings.

Powerball's rules dictate that winners can only claim their prize in the same state where the ticket was bought. This meant the Texas winner had to trek back to Maryland. Fortunately, his bosses set up a work trip through Maryland once they got wind of his lucky situation. He scheduled his prize collection to coincide with this journey.

Not wanting to make the trip alone, he took his wife with him this time. "We are so excited for him," she beamed. The lucky lottery player disclosed that this big win came just after he had scooped four numbers on another Powerball draw. His intention is to stash the $50,000 into his retirement savings.
