The potential sale of Scott McTominay could be a crucial factor if Man United are to complete their midfield overhaul before the transfer window closes. The Red Devils are currently short on funds for both Sander Berge and Manual Ugarte .

McTominay's future has been in doubt throughout the summer, with Fulham and Napoli showing interest in the central midfielder. United turned down Fulham's £20million offer earlier this summer, but according to the Daily Mail, interest has been reignited .

Napoli, on the other hand, is more interested in a loan-to-buy deal for the Scotland international.

With just one year left on his contract with United, although the club has the option to extend it for another 12 months, McTominay's future remains uncertain.

A product of United's academy, the 27-year-old has made over 250 appearances for the club since his senior debut in April 2017. Last season was his best yet in terms of goal scoring, netting 10 times, including winning goals against Brentford, Chelsea and Aston Villa in the Premier League .

However, McTominay may have to make way to help fund manager Erik ten Hag's ongoing squad overhaul.

United are currently eyeing Burnley's Berge and Paris Saint-Germain's Ugarte. United's initial offer for the Sheffield United defensive midfielder fell short of the club's £30million valuation, while Ugarte is reportedly the preferred choice but any move is subject to PSG's asking price.

Ugarte was not involved in the French club's Ligue 1 season opener against Le Havre last Friday amid transfer rumors.

PSG are reportedly willing to let the midfielder go, but they are sticking firm to their £52million valuation, which is what they paid Sporting for him in July last year.

Last season, Ugarte played in 37 games for the French giants as they clinched both Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

Berge has been absent from Burnley's first two Championship matches. New manager Scott Parker attributed his absence in the season opener against Luton to an injury within the squad.

Parker had hoped to have Berge back for the match against Cardiff, but it proved too soon. Berge joined the Clarets from Sheffield United last summer but couldn't prevent the club's relegation to the Championship.
