Two teenagers are reportedly under investigation following the killing of Irish chef Shaun Brady. The Co Tipperary native was shot dead outside his restaurant in Kansas City on Wednesday in a "senseless tragedy".

Shaun is understood to have been killed when he encountered a group of individuals by a parked car while taking out the trash outside Brady and Fox Restaurant shortly before 5pm.

The situation escalated and Shaun was fatally shot. The 44-year-old leaves behind his wife, Kate, and children, as well as a strong Irish community in Kansas City who he was "at the heart of" and are "shattered" by his death .

On Thursday, two young men were being held in connection with the homicide , according to NPR and Kansas City Police. It is believed Shaun was gunned down when trying to intercept a possible car burglary.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the victim was taking out trash when he observed multiple subjects by a vehicle," said KCPD Sgt. Phillip DiMartino.

"An interaction between the victim and subjects occurred leading to the victim being shot. Within an hour of the incident occurring two juvenile male teen subjects were taken into custody pending further investigation.

"The vehicle used in the crime was also recovered. The subjects were taken into custody and the vehicle was found a short distance away in Midtown." The teens have not been formally arrested or charged in the case yet.

The Kansas City Irish Fest, which attracts around 75,000 people each year , takes place over Labor Day weekend, but representatives revealed their hearts are "absolutely broken" following Brady's passing.

"Shaun was not only a large part of the Kansas City Irish Fest family, but his restaurant, Brady and Fox, was a place where many in the Irish community gathered ," a representative wrote online.

"It was one of Shaun's greatest gifts to bring people together with his culinary creations . Shaun was the head chef and creator of the Kansas City Irish Breakfast, a joyful tradition."
