NFL sends top dogs to Dublin to scope out venue as Pittsburgh Steelers gear up for international face-off

The NFL has reportedly sent its top dogs to Dublin to scope out the possibility of hosting games there . Big league executives jetted to the Irish capital to check out two of the city's biggest stadiums, according to US Sun.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are lined up to play in Dublin. The Steelers brought the NFL to Ireland with the island's first ever watch party last year and have held many successful youth camps in Cork, Belfast , and Dublin since.

In terms of possible venues, Croke Park can hold more than 80,000 and is the home of Ireland's Gaelic sports . Aviva Stadium is Irish rugby's home and accommodates around 50,000 attendees.

Dublin is well used to welcoming American Football lovers . The Fair City has college football showdowns for three years on the bounce, most recently Georgia Tech vs Florida State for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic.

Art Rooney II, Steelers team president, said he would be "very, very pleased" to see the Steelers play a game in Ireland . The Rooneys have proud roots in Newry in the north of Ireland which may be part of the drive to play there.

The NFL is playing four games in Europe this season including three in London. Meanwhile, a date has been set for the 2027 Aer Lingus College Football Classic between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Pittsburgh Panthers.

This has fuelled the fire even more for potential NFL events in Ireland. US commentators predict the Steelers to play a game in Ireland in 2025 or 2027 after they were awarded marketing rights in Ireland last year.
