Netflix's hit show has sparked a debate among its fans, with many claiming it to be "one of the best series in history".

If you're missing Game of Thrones since its controversial final episode in 2019, Netflix subscribers have got your back.

Don't get too caught up with HBO's new prequel, House of the Dragon, because there's another series on Netflix that viewers reckon will fill the void perfectly.

The Last Kingdom, which debuted in 2015, is a British historical drama based on Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories novels.

According to its IMDb page, the show follows: "As Alfred the Great defends his kingdom from Norse invaders, Uhtred - born a Saxon but raised by Vikings - seeks to claim his ancestral birthright."

Initially launched on BBC Two, Netflix joined as a co-producer and took over the series in 2018.

Wrapping up in 2022 with a total of 46 episodes, Netflix also released a feature-length sequel called Seven Kings Must Die to finish off the saga in 2023.

Set in the 9th century Anglo-Saxon England, The Last Kingdom portrays the English resistance against Danish Viking incursions.

The cast includes Ewan Mitchell and Phia Saban, known for their roles in House of the Dragon as Aemond and Helaena Targaryen, respectively. Other notable actors are Alexander Draymon, Arnas Fedaravicius, Emily Cox, and Eliza Butterworth.

The show's admirers have taken to X, the platform once known as Twitter, to declare their affection for the series.

One enthusiast posted: "Extremely captivating from its soundtrack to its staging in battle through history, everything, in general, is transmitted in an impressive way. This season has been really moving and for me, it is one of the best series in history. Masterpiece 10/10."

Another supporter tweeted: "The Last Kingdom is my favorite Netflix show. Its series finale far surpassed Game of Thrones finale! ".

An additional user concurred, commenting "Recently finished watching The Last Kingdom. This show seriously doesn't get enough attention."

"It's one of the most consistently well-written shows I've seen, even with the low budget of S1 does the writing shine, and continues to improve over time. Highly recommended."

Yet another fan argued, stating: "Well better than Game Of Thrones. Don't think there is a bad episode let alone a bad season."
