A female student at Apalachee High School detailed how cops were chasing an active shooter up and down the hallways before finally apprehending them.

Speaking to a CNN TV crew, the teenager described how students were crying and cowering in classrooms amid the terrifying events of Wednesday morning, before getting the all clear.

The school, located in Winder, Barrow County, roughly 50 miles from Atlanta, was put into lockdown due to an "active shooter" incident on campus.

Sergio Caldera, aged 17, told ABC News about the moment his teacher attempted to investigate the disturbance. "My teacher goes and opens the door to see what's going on," he said.

Another teacher urgently advised her to secure the door due to the presence of an active shooter.

The teacher quickly locked the door, and the students retreated to the back of the classroom amidst external screams as they "huddled up," according to Caldera.

At one point, someone banged on their classroom door, repeatedly yelling "open up! " Caldera mentioned. After the knocking stopped, more shots and screams echoed, he added.

Caldera's class eventually made their way out to the football field. In the meantime, the local community is actively disseminating information about the ongoing crisis via various social media platforms.
