Even the young royals aren't immune to a bit of informal banter, with even the third in line to the British throne, Princess Charlotte, snagging a nickname from friends .

Prince William and Princess Kate are dead set on giving nine-year-old Charlotte - who it's claimed looks just like two other royals - as normal a life as they can . At her school, she's known simply as Charlotte Cambridge, but it's her endearing schoolyard nickname that's really taken off.

Apparently, her friends have taken to calling her Lottie Wales, tipping their hats to her parents' lofty titles granted by the King after the Queen passed away. And this pet name ain't just for the classroom; it's got use beyond the school fence, proven by a tale from last year.

On a trip out to Northern Ireland , Instagram sensation Laura-Ann and her two year old son George ran into Kate. The Duchess greeted them: "Hello, what's your name? Hi George, what a cool name you've got, and you look very smart in your bowtie. It's very nice to meet you."

Laura-Ann, hailing from Belfast and juggling life as a part-time estate agent with her online presence, couldn't wait to catch a glimpse of Kate and Prince William during their visit to Windsor Park. Later, she dished the dirt on their conversation via her Instagram, revealing Kate referred to her daughter simply as Lottie, reports Leicestershire Live .

In Laura-Ann's words, "So then she asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, 'Oh, he's the same age as Lottie'. She calls her Lottie."

Little Charlotte has been dubbed the "Warrior Princess" by her doting parents due to her feisty streak, Vanity Fair's royal correspondent Katie Nicholl has disclosed. According to a shopper who overheard Kate during a 2018 trip to The Range and spoke to the Daily Mail, Kate is said to have gently chided her daughter with the endearing "get up poppet".

The Duke and Duchess also have quaint nicknames for their other tots. Just 'George' is how the young prince is known among his classmates at Thomas's School in Battersea, avoiding any princely pretence.

But within the family, Prince George has earned himself the nickname "Tips" after his moniker PG, a witty nod to the famous tea brand. In addition, the Cambridges' littlest child, Prince Louis, has been charmingly called Boss Baby by his fans, a nod to his commanding nature.
