The father of Georgia school shooting suspect Colt Gray has revealed that his son was reportedly "bullied for being gay".

Colin Gray, 54, shared with investigators that his son faced constant ridicule at schoo l, stating: "It was very difficult for him to go to school and not get picked on".

He further added: "It went from one thing to another... I was trying to get him on the golf team... [they were like], "Oh, look, Colt's gay. He's dating that guy."

14-year-old Colt Gray made his first court appearance on Friday morning, charged as an adult in the deaths of fellow students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.

Nine others were also injured in Wednesday's attack at Appalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Colin Gray, the father of the suspect, was also arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Officials from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated that he "knowingly allowed" his son access to firearms.

Gray admitted to police that he had bought the gun used in the shooting as a Christmas gift for his son.

In a recent interview with the police, Colin Gray spoke about his family affairs, revealing that a separation from Colt's mother "[left] him to take care of Colt."

Gray shared insight into Colt's challenges at Jefferson Middle School, noting that Colt "gets flustered and under pressure," and "doesn't really think straight."

Describing his intent behind introducing Colt to firearms, Colin explained he wanted to instill knowledge about weapons and generate his son's interest in nature as an alternative to video games. By exposing him that way, I was trying to get him away from those video games, he declared.

His father, Colin Gray, displayed acute emotional distress during his own court appearance, shedding tears before he walked into the same courtroom where his son had previously stood. Colin faces serious allegations himself - two charges of second-degree murder alongside four manslaughter counts among other serious indictories.
