Crews battling 5-acre fire In Wind Cave National Park
HOT SPRINGS, SD – Crews from multiple agencies are fighting a 5-acre fire in Wind Cave National Park. The park’s engine crew spotted the fire at 12:42 p.m. Saturday, July 27. As of late afternoon, the Limestone Fire was actively burning in grass and timber on a ridgetop next to Wind Cave Canyon, approximately 2 miles northeast of the park’s visitor center.
STICKS TOP PARKSTON FOR 14U STATE TITLE
Considering the stellar season that it was, the Freeman/Marion 14u Teeners finished it off in the most fitting way possible — with a state championship. Competing in the final round of the South Dakota VFW 14B State Tournament in Garretson Sunday afternoon, the Sticks blew past Parkston 14-4 to claim the title. It was the team’s third win in three days; Freeman/Marion also defeated Ethan/Emery 14-4 in the opening round on Friday and Britton 11-1 in the semifinals on Saturday for a collective triple trouncing of 39-9.

CANOVA — Riley Hoffman and Drew Sweeter drove in a combined eight runs during the District 4B tournament victory over Madison Saturday. Hoffman batted 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs, Sweeter collected two hits, a homer, a walk, and four RBIs, Matt Gillogly had two hits, a home run, and three RBIs, while Weston Hansen and Zach Puetz each drove in a run on a combined five hits, including three doubles by Hansen.
