IRVING (KDAF) — Each year, hundreds of volunteers gather at Nell Anne Hunt’s home to distribute American flags throughout the city of Irving, sparking joy and patriotism.

What started 32 years ago as a simple gesture of planting flags in her neighbors’ yards has blossomed into the Great Flag Caper , a nonprofit organization with 300 dedicated volunteers. Together, they proudly plant 40,000 flags in front of homes and businesses, turning Irving into a sea of red, white, and blue.

The spirited patriotism happens in the days leading up to the Fourth of July. Volunteers will plant flags through Tuesday, July 3, leading up to a patriotic potluck celebration. Feel the spirit of Independence Day as Hunt and her volunteers spread the red, white, and blue cheer across Irving!
